The 10th of October is World Mental Health Day! Research confirms that at least 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime. Unfortunately, there can still be a stigma attached to speaking out about mental health issues, but no one should have to go through it alone.
There are many organisations that provide support and assistance to those affected by mental health issues as well as their family members. Discussing these issues should be as easy as speaking out about physical illnesses.
When suffering with a mental health problem, dealing with the responsibility of financial matters can seem daunting and too much to deal with. Although often seen as something that an older person may require, a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) can prove very useful at any age and can help to alleviate the pressure of dealing with financial and/or health matters by allowing you to appoint someone you trust as your Attorney. They will be able to deal with your finances as well as health issues. Their involvement and assistance can be as much or as little as you need and knowing that there is someone there to support you can make a real difference.
The Private Client team here at Arnold Thomson will be happy to discuss your needs and thoughts about a Lasting Power of Attorney with you. We will listen carefully to your personal circumstances and help you to understand if an LPA is something that could be useful for you.
